REPORT ON ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ON SKILL DEVELOPMENT BY MSDC

The Department of Commerce and Business Administration, Bhandarkars’ Arts & Science College, Kundapura, organized an Orientation Programme on “Skill Development by MSDC” on 29 August 2026 at 10:00 AM at the R.N. Shetty Hall. The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students about various skill-development opportunities and courses offered by the Manipal Skill Development Centre (MSDC). The programme details, including the venue, date, chief guest and resource person, were as mentioned in the official programme invitation.

Objectives of the Programme
The programme was organized with the following objectives:
• To create awareness among students about the importance of skill development in enhancing employability.
• To introduce students to various skill-development courses and training opportunities available through MSDC.
• To help students understand the relevance of industry-oriented skills alongside their academic qualifications.
• To encourage students to acquire additional technical and professional skills for better career prospects.
• To motivate students to explore diverse career opportunities and prepare themselves for the changing demands of the employment market.

Programme Proceedings
The programme commenced with a prayer rendered by Ms. Manasvi and Ms. Manasa, seeking blessings for the successful conduct of the event. This was followed by the formal welcome and introduction of the dignitaries and resource person.
Ms. Prajna P. Hegde served as the Master of Ceremony (MC) and efficiently coordinated the proceedings of the programme.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Secretary, AGE, Manipal, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of acquiring relevant skills in addition to academic qualifications. He encouraged students to make effective use of the opportunities available for skill enhancement and career development.
The resource person, Dr. Rajalaxmi Anandan, Centre Head of School of IT Skills at MSDC, Manipal, conducted the orientation session on skill development. She provided students with an overview of the importance of industry-relevant skills and explained how additional training and certification can support students in improving their employability and career prospects. The session encouraged students to identify their areas of interest and explore suitable skill-development programmes.
Approximately 400 students from I B.Com and BBA attended the programme. Faculty members from both the Department of Commerce and the Department of Business Administration were also present and actively supported the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Rithin S., who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Resource Person, Principal, faculty members, organizers and students for their valuable contribution and participation.

Outcomes of the Programme
The orientation programme created awareness among first-year B.Com and BBA students regarding the significance of skill development and its role in building a successful career. Students gained an understanding of the need to complement their academic learning with practical and industry-oriented skills.
The programme also motivated students to explore skill-development courses offered by MSDC and encouraged them to make use of such opportunities from the early stages of their undergraduate education. The interaction with the resource person helped students understand the importance of continuous learning, professional development and employability skills.

Conclusion
The Orientation Programme on Skill Development by MSDC was successfully conducted with the participation of around 400 I B.Com and BBA students and faculty members from both departments. The programme served as an effective platform for introducing students to skill-development opportunities and emphasizing the importance of acquiring additional competencies for career growth. The initiative is expected to encourage students to actively pursue skill-based learning and enhance their preparedness for future employment and professional opportunities.
