REPORT ON CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMERCE STUDENTS
The Department of Commerce, Bhandarkars’ Arts & Science College, Kundapura, organised a programme on “Career Opportunities for Commerce Students – Building the Skills Companies Need in the AI Era” on 10 August 2026 at 10:30 AM at RN Shetty Hall. The programme was organised with the objective of creating awareness among commerce students about the diverse career opportunities available in the present competitive and technology-driven business environment.
The programme focused particularly on the changing requirements of companies in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era and highlighted the importance of developing relevant technical, analytical, communication and professional skills.

Objectives of the Programme:
The programme was organised with the following objectives:
• To create awareness about various career opportunities available for Commerce students.
• To familiarise students with the changing requirements of the corporate sector.
• To highlight the importance of developing employability and professional skills.
• To create awareness about the role of Artificial Intelligence in the business and employment environment.
• To encourage students to plan their careers from the early stages of their academic journey.
• To motivate students to acquire additional skills beyond their regular curriculum.
The programme commenced with a prayer by Hani and team, creating a positive and graceful beginning to the event.The programme was compered by Dhruv, who welcomed the gathering and coordinated the proceedings smoothly.Gouthami delivered the introduction of the resource person, Dr. Anand S., and highlighted his professional background and expertise.The presence of Dr. Shubhakar Achary, Principal, Prof. Satyanarayana, Student Welfare Officer, Mr. Arun A. S., HOD, Department of Commerce, Mr. Rithin S., HOD, Commerce Vocational added significance to the programme.
Dr. Anand S., Director, Postgraduate Studies, Research & Innovation Department, College of Banking and Financial Studies, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, served as the resource person.He addressed the students on the theme “Career Opportunities for Commerce Students – Building the Skills Companies Need in the AI Era.”
The session provided students with valuable insights into the changing employment landscape and the wide range of career opportunities available to Commerce graduates. The resource person emphasised the need for students to continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills in accordance with the changing demands of industries.
The students were encouraged to develop communication skills, analytical abilities, digital skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability and professional competence. The session also highlighted the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence and technology in business, finance, accounting and other professional areas.
The interaction helped students understand the importance of preparing themselves for future career opportunities and developing skills that complement their academic knowledge.
A total of 350 students of I B.Com participated in the programme. The students actively listened to the session and gained awareness regarding career planning, employability skills and the changing expectations of employers. The programme served as a useful platform for students to understand the importance of skill development and career preparedness at the undergraduate level.
At the conclusion of the programme, Mr. Rithin S., HOD, Commerce Vocational and Programme Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the resource person, college authorities, faculty members, students and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.

Outcomes of the Programme
• Students gained awareness about various career opportunities in Commerce.
• Students understood the skills required by companies in the AI era.
• Participants recognised the importance of digital and employability skills.
• Students gained insights into career planning and professional development.
• The programme motivated students to upgrade their skills and prepare for future career opportunities.
